PRESERVE THE REAL ALAN WATTS
Did Alan Watts really say that?
As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes a dominant force in shaping how we access knowledge, we face a critical challenge: ensuring that its capabilities enhance, rather than diminish, the depth of authentic wisdom. While AI excels at mimicking language, it falls short in preserving the contemplative richness that defines human insight. Today AI impersonations of Alan Watts threaten to obscure his original words and ideas.
The Real Alan Watts Project seeks to address this issue by creating tools that provide genuine access to nuanced wisdom. Together, we can solve this problem and preserve the integrity of the Alan Watts legacy and inspire future generations with his playful insights and liberating worldview. LEARN MORE
SUPPORT THE ARCHIVE
Today there are still hundreds of hours of Alan’s talks that have never published, and so we continue to curate and release talks from this growing archival collection. Without these efforts, most of the talks recorded in the sixties and early seventies would have only been experienced by those present at the live events.
COMPLETE DIGITIZATION
Ongoing archival and digitization efforts are a major undertaking, given the hundreds of hours of media originally recorded on lacquered disks, magnetic reels and cassettes between 1953 and 1973. We are constantly curating from a collection of 500 reels and hundreds of cassettes. In addition, each year new materials are discovered in libraries and personal collections with Watts’ lecture and seminar sessions, as well as previously uncatalogued interviews and television appearances.
